Horses and cars in Mongolia

Some of you have been asking questions about horses and cars in Mongolia, so I thought you might like to see this photo I took on my way to the market. It has both subjects in it. The horse and cart and a Russian van which is used a lot here for transport as a sort of 'mini bus'. They take passengers all over the countryside on all sorts of roads or 'non-roads.' |

I also got this great shot as we pulled up behind an old Russian car loaded to the gunnels with frozen sheep carcasses, in the boot and on the roof, probably on the way to sell them somewhere. This is quite common here. You see piles of frozen skins on the roofs of cars as well. Because of the below-zero temperatures outside many people use their balconies as deep freezes over the winter months and store their meat etc out there. |
